With a rich history rooted in master-planned communities, multi-family development and retirement residences in North America, Europe and Asia, Lev Living is building a larger team to expand its mixed-use residential portfolio in the Greater Toronto Area. Together with its affiliated companies, Byron Equities Inc., Lev Senior Living and Koler Builders, LEV Living has built communities from the ground up- from design, development, construction to operations. The company has a significant growth mandate, building from its current portfolio of nearly a dozen high-rise and multi-family developments as well as new large-scale acquisitions of mixed-use sites near transit. The Lev offices are located within walking distance of Lawrence West TTC Station in Toronto.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a self-motivated Financial Controller to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial self-starter attitude with excellent organizational skills. They will be exposed to a full range of mixed-use projects in all phases, and will contribute directly to shaping the development of these projects. The candidate will report directly to the Vice President of Finance, and will be working in a fast-paced environment with huge growth opportunities. You will be joining a young, growing, and tight-knit team with a passion for design excellence and shaping lifestyles. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring consistent corporate financial strategy through a range of avenues such as managing and allocating accounts, financial statements, and tax data.
Corporate Systems
- Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plans.
- Develop and support short-term operational strategies.
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of an accounting, audit, or other financial department.
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape.
- Develop and implement the financial policies, systems, and procedures for the company.
- Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with company policies.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Evaluate the financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions to senior managers and other department regional managers.
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs adhering to relevant standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation.
- Maintain internal safeguard for revenue receipts and costs.
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records.
Financial Reporting
- Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis.
- Manage the monthly reporting requirements as required.
- Assist in development of a KPI Financial Reporting model.
- Manage the annual budgeting requirements for the operating companies.
- Manage and assist with quarterly investor package preparation.
- Manage the annual year end audit process.
- Management of all capital calls and distributions.
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all government filings and remittances (HST, WSIB, EHT, etc.,)
- Prepare or coordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports.
- Review and participate in establishing profitability standards for investment activities.
- Manage mortgage renewals and provide recommendations.
Financial Analysis
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points.
- Monitor the Financial performance of the various companies.
- Manage and provide insight on the financial reporting packages.
- Effectively communicate financial metrics to senior management.
- Supervise the development and implementation of financial simulation models.
- Provide cash flow analysis and management.
- Debt management and collection analysis.
- Provide detailed review and analysis for acquisitions, dispositions and refinancings.
- Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends that are critical to the organization’s financial performance.
General Ledger
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
- Manage the general ledger for various corporate entities.
- Manage the accounting and bookkeeping transactions.
- Maintain appropriate records to support underlying transactions.
- Manage the Accounts payable, Accounts receivable and Bank reconciliation process.
- Manage month end closing procedures.
- Provide leadership and support to accounts receivable and accounts payable departments.
Human Resources & Payroll
- Recruit, organize, train, and manage staff.
- Manage the preparation of payroll for personnel.
- Keep up to date on current HR trends.
- Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development.
- Ensure compliance with relevant payroll legislation.
- Manage training programs for Department managers.
- Maintain and safeguard the payroll records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA), or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.
- Minimum 5 years accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role with at least two years of experience in human resources.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, directed and starter individual.
- Impeccable analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to work closely with senior management team.
- Experience with forecasting and budgeting.
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis.
- Working knowledge of national tax regulations and compliance reporting.
- Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes.
- Exemplary history of financial project management.
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel), Intermediate level
- Experience with Jonas Premier Software, ADP, and QuickBooks and asset.
