Job Overview:
This Corporate Accountant role is a new role within the Corporate Finance team, which will be responsible for the accounting for Commercial trade spend and SG&A expense including marketing. The role reports into the Corporate Finance team and reports directly to the Senior Corporate Accountant. The role is focused primarily on the core accounting for trade spend, commissions, deductions, sales and consumer marketing, with additional financial reporting, and analysis tasks as needed. In addition, this role would assist with forecasting and budgeting and monthly reporting and analysis for all Commercial business units. Minimal travel may be required for this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities, including journal entries, variance analyses, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepares working papers related to trade spend, sales and marketing expenses, and other commercial SG&A for internal and external auditors.
- Communicates with key stakeholders to understand transactions, focusing on trade spend, deductions, broker commissions, and marketing spend.
- Coordinates receipt of information to complete financial close and ensures appropriate documentation is retained.
- Prepares monthly analysis of spend against budget and collaborates on internal presentations and reporting requirements.
- Communicates with external and internal auditors to discuss processes and transactions, and supports various business departments.
- Assists with the preparation of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and other corporate accounting functions as required.
- Other corporate accounting functions as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in finance with a strong understanding of accounting, and a business degree with a major in accounting or equivalent.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical details, and excellent organizational skills to manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to effectively diagnose and troubleshoot problems and opportunities as they arise and refer to manager and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and a proven ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures.
- Effective time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and work independently or with a team to achieve goals.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, including formulas and pivot tables, and experience with JDE (E1), ReportsNow, or Prism is an asset.
- Experience with public company reporting requirements, including knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is an asset.
- Strong work ethic, positive team attitude, and sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
