Position Summary
Corporate Controller will be part of a finance team that provides high quality accounting and reporting services to the Ellement team and to our clients. This role requires the ability to work with information that is highly confidential and critical in nature. The Corporate Controller must be professional and highly organized, have excellent communication skills, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work autonomously.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledgers and corporate financial statements for the Ellement group of companies
- Perform corporate accounting, reporting, and banking functions for Ellement, including support of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Support the development of financial and analytical reports for the team, as required or requested
- Accurately prepare working papers, account reconciliations, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and related financial analyses and reports for Ellement on a timely basis
- Establish (in coordination with CEO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Perform and maintain monthly/quarterly invoicing to all clients
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
- Liaise with bank representatives and vendors as required
- Handling preparation for tax returns, GST and other regulatory filings and ensuring timely payment of tax instalments and balances
- Liaise with external auditors for Ellement and client trust funds, including the coordination of audit field work and preparation of audit working papers to meet established reporting deadlines
- Provide accounting technical guidance to the finance team and support the ongoing development of the finance staff through mentoring and training
- Contribute to the team effort by completing other accounting, analysis, review and reporting tasks as assigned
Qualifications And Attributes
- CPA designation required (or near completion of designation)
- Demonstrated experience (3-5 years) in financial accounting and reporting and working knowledge of accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks)
- Relevant work experience in the Benefits/Pension industry would be a definite asset
- Excellent mathematical, reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to set and manage multiple priorities
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to complete work within established deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality related to private and business matters
- Successful completion of a cleared criminal background check is required
