Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team full-time. This in-person role requires someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and has a strong understanding of accounting principles. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all bookkeeping activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing and Reviewing Invoices: Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all invoices.
- Tracking and Processing Progress Billing Reports: Manage and monitor progress billing to maintain financial control.
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Management: Follow up with overdue accounts, collect payments over the phone, and ensure timely payments to vendors.
- Monthly Bank Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Reconcile balance sheets and ensure all entries are accurate and complete.
- Income Statement Analysis: Review income statements for accuracy and completeness.
- GST and PST Remittances: Prepare and submit remittances for GST and PST.
- Employee Hours and Job Materials Tracking: Confirm that employee hours and job materials align with internal tracking software.
- Payroll Support: Submit time sheets and assist with payroll processing.
- On-boarding Paperwork: Prepare all necessary paperwork for new team members.
- Clerical/Administrative Functions: Perform data entry and provide administrative support as needed.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain and update general ledger accounts.
- Accounting System Transactions: Generate transactions in the accounting system as directed.
Qualifications:
- Formal education in accounting or bookkeeping (e.g., certificate, diploma, or degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field from a recognized institution).
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role, ideally in a Canadian setting.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, practices, and tax laws, including GST/HST.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients and team members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handling multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in the construction or marketing industries is an asset.
- Familiarity with Manitoba-specific regulations and tax requirements, including payroll deductions and remittances.
