Financial Controller
The Controller supervises and directs the financial activities of the hotel, safeguards the assets, and prepares all financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The Controller is a key member of the executive team that will produce thorough financials and analysis for the General Manager and Ownership group to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth. He/she reports to the General Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of consolidation monthly, quarter and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Preparation of monthly strata billing.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
- Monitor and execute the annual Capex plan
- Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process.
- Preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
- Review and optimize accounting policies annually and as necessary. Advise management of desirable operational adjustments for cash flow optimization and tax planning.
- Assessing current financial operations, offering recommendations for improvement through process changes or technology improvements and implementing new processes.
- Coordinating activities of external auditors, valuators, and tax advisors.
- Prepare and file all required government remittances, including payroll deductions and other tax obligations, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Strive for continuous improvement and find new efficiencies to processes and enhancing overall profitability.
- Responsible for accurate general ledger and the sub-ledgers balances including asset management.
- Reconcile front to back-office applications and oversee POS systems.
- Oversight of purchasing, inventory management, cost control, and perform periodic inventory counts.
- Maintain external relationships with suppliers, banks, insurance, and other stakeholders outside of the organization.
- Negotiate and monitor contracts with hotel’s vendors, insurance providers and other key supplier relationships.
- Oversee the accurate execution of payroll.
- Other special projects and due diligence activities as required.
Qualifications:
- Possess a university degree in accounting and CPA (or equivalent) certification with 3 or more years’ experience.
- Previous experience as a Controller/Director of Finance at a branded or independent full service Hotel preferred.
- Knowledge of Maestro, Opera, Moneris, Synerion, Silverware, and Sage products an asset.
- Advanced Excel and computer skills.
- Ability to perform bookkeeping functions (preparing cheques, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, accounts receivable, payroll processing, etc.)

Pay: $85,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
