Overview
We are seeking a skilled Controller to join our team. The Controller oversees all financial processes and is responsible for ensuring timely and relevant reporting of overall financial performance GT Mann Contracting and its related entities. This comprises overseeing the full accounting process, including the monthly and annual accounting cycle, accounts receivable and payable, budget variance reporting, payroll, and cash flow management. The Controller ensures accounting policy and practice are followed to mitigate risks and increase accuracy of analysis. The Controller works closely with other senior managers to provide analysis and recommendations to the President that will ensure GT Mann excels.
Duties
Finance – Analysis
- Manages cash flow and working capital, using cash flow forecasting to make strategic and timely recommendations regarding cash position.
- Coordinates and directs budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting.
- Holds monthly budget and financial statement review meetings, making recommendations for improvement.
- Mitigates risk through analysis and makes recommendations for improvements.
Finance – Operations
- Develops annual budget, in conjunction with the General Manager.
- Monitors and seeks to improve G&A costs on a regular basis.
- Manages bank, investment, and credit card accounts and associated transactions in conjunction with AP specialist.
- Constructs reliable and secure accounting systems to mitigate risks for the company.
- Ensures proper approval processes are in place for payment, bank access, and other financial systems to ensure the safety and security of GT Mann.
- Oversees accounting operations including billing, A/R and A/P.
- Administers company benefits program and reviews annually.
- Maintain and submit bi-weekly RRSP and DPSP contributions
- Maintain and administers company wide phone plan
- Oversees payroll process and associated items.
- Reviews contracts and terms for vendor and distributor agreements.
- Correspond with clients and answer questions regarding monthly Time and Material invoices.
Finance – Reporting
- Oversees the timely preparation of month-end reporting.
- Prepares year-end documentation for submission to external accounting firm.
- Manages all financial and contractual data/records, including distributor contracts, shareholder agreements and any other legally binding agreements.
- Manages financial systems including structure/design, chart of accounts, report writing, user base, and access controls.
- Manages and complies with municipal, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements, tax filings, and other legislation.
- Supervises all bank and credit card reconciliations and reporting.
Human Resources
- Leads the recruitment and onboarding process for the finance staff, in conjunction with others where necessary.
- Prepares, modifies, and delivers job descriptions and performance evaluations to direct reports.
- Sets clear and realistic expectations with direct reports through one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, job descriptions presentations and effective feedback.
- Engages in conflict resolution and works with managers, staff, and clients to resolve issues.
- Holds regularly scheduled, rarely missed 1:1s with all direct reports.
General
- Contributes to a culture of team building and continuous improvement.
- Creates and updates process flows, procedures, checklists, and other documentation.
- Attends regular meetings, and other meetings as required including strategic meetings as requested.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-Secondary degree in a relevant field (business, accounting, economics).
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset.
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in a professional accounting role.
- Experience using common accounting software including Sage 100 Contractor.
- Experience in the construction industry is an asset.
- Experience with operations is an asset.
Skills
- Intermediate understanding of management accounting best practices.
- Thorough understanding of Canadian financial accounting best practices.
- Able to analyse and explain detailed financial information.
- Ability to manage around monthly deadlines and still get the details right.
- Ability to coach and mentor direct reports.
- Proficient in financial process design.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
