Position Overview: We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Tax Manager to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax compliance and planning, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage client relationships effectively. This role is pivotal in ensuring our clients' tax strategies are aligned with their business goals while navigating complex tax regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise a team of 3-5 professionals (up to 10-15 people during tax season)
- Assist with tax planning (including corporate re-structuring, estate/succession planning, mergers/acquisitions, sale of business, etc.)
- Review detailed steps memorandums (outlining the steps involved in specific tax related transactions)
- Review detailed tax memorandums (outlining the tax consequences of various transactions and providing a recommendation on course of action)
- Review and prepare tax calculations to illustrate benefits/consequences of proposed transactions
- Review tax correspondence to respond to CRA’s requests and/or audits (Personal and Corporate)
- Perform tax research on specific tax matters
- Apply knowledge of corporate and personal tax to assist clients
- Review personal tax returns and corporate tax returns
- Respond to client questions and queries
- Raise identified technical issues with Tax Partner or Managing Partner
- Update Tax Partner on the progress of engagements on an ongoing basis
- Coaching and mentoring junior members of the tax team
- Be involved in various corporate committees within the organization
- Be involved in various special summer projects during the summer

QUALIFICATIONS
- 4-7 years of professional accounting experience
- 2 years of tax experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics or equivalent experience
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or completion of all required CPA hours
- Enrollment or completion of In-Depth Tax course considered an asset
- Extensive knowledge of and experience working with Canadian personal and corporate tax system
- Knowledge of the application of tax-free rollovers (i.e. S85, S86, S51 rollovers)
- Experience dealing with tax strategies (i.e. surplus stripping, capital gain stripping, intergenerational transfers) is considered an asset
- Experience dealing with various tax transactions (i.e. Mergers and acquisitions, asset sales, share sales, pre-sale tax planning, etc.) is considered an asset
- Extensive knowledge of the Income Tax Act and important relevant sections with respect to tax planning and strategizing
- Enrollment or desire to enrol in the In-Depth Tax Course (ideally completed Year 1-2 of the In-Depth Tax Course)
- Passionate about tax and desire to learn
- Experience working with software's such as Caseware, Caseview, TaxPrep or Profile
- Very strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confident individual in their knowledge of the tax system and ability to discuss sensitive items with clients.
- Strong commitment to excellence and attention to detail
- Problem solver with solid analytical skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a group
- Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Some travel may be required
