As we continue to expand, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant/Controller to join our finance team.
What You Will Be Doing
As a Senior Accountant/Controller at Nedlaw Roofing, you will play a crucial role in managing the company’s financial health and strategic insights that guide executive decision-making. You will oversee all aspects of financial operations, from day-to-day accounting to long-term planning. Your leadership will ensure the company remains sound, compliant with regulations, and strategically positioned for growth including managing budgets and forecasting.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting principles, demonstrate leadership skills, and contribute to strategic financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to provide clear insights into the company’s financial performance.
- Generate management reports that highlight key financial metrics, trends, and insights for the senior leadership team, enabling informed decision-making.
- Prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring that all financial records are in order and compliant with applicable standards.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to create detailed, realistic budgets that reflect project costs, overhead, and future investments.
- Track the company’s financial performance against the budget, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Provide projections for future financial performance, considering market trends and internal performance metrics.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure that the company complies with all applicable accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations by working closely with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure all filings and submissions are timely and accurate.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify potential financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor and forecast cash flow, identifying potential shortfalls and recommending actions to mitigate liquidity risk.
- Implement and refine processes for managing accounts receivable, ensuring the timely collection of payment.
- Oversee the timely processing of vendor payments to maintain good relationships with suppliers while optimizing cash flows.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Supervise the daily activities of the finance and accounting team, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities to junior finance staff and foster a culture of continuous learning to encourage your team to stay updated on best practices, financial regulations, and technologies.
- Clearly delegate tasks to team members, ensuring clarity of responsibilities and holding individuals accountable for their areas of work.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and improve existing accounting processes to eliminate inefficiencies, reduce manual work, and increase the accuracy and timeliness of financial data.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and recommend changes to streamline workflows.
- Explore opportunities for automating routine financial tasks to free up time for strategic work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in financial leadership roles, preferably in the construction industry or working with project-based financials.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulation, and tax laws.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software (insert specific software) and Microsoft Excel.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performance teams.
