This hire will be solely responsible for managing and overseeing payroll processes and procedures starting for the 2025 year. We would like to have someone start prior to the Christmas Holiday in order to be trained up come the New Year
Responsibilities
- Processes and oversees Payroll for Canada Employees (Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec)
- Ensures all payroll batches are correct and properly coded to correct department and job
- Point of contact for all payroll-related queries
- Maintains payroll information by obtaining and following up with employees
- Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department/division transfers
- Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages
- Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and provincial income tax, CPP, EI, workers compensation payments, etc.
- Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
- Completes year-end cycle and tax form filings for all applicable government agencies
- Corresponds to government inquiries
- Maintains payroll guidelines by working with Human Resources to update policies and procedures
- Complies with federal, province, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
- Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
- Assists in month end close procedures by preparing journal entries
- Prepares Ad Hoc reports for leadership team as needed
