Position Summary:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of the company’s payroll, year end processes and managing government reporting and remittances. This role is integral to data and records integrity, engaging directly with auditors, implementing the records management program, and tracking and maintaining metrics assessing the payroll accuracy. The Payroll Specialist reports directly to the Director, Human Resources and works across the organization with people leaders and the Manager, General Accounting.

Job Responsibilities:
- Process and deliver regular payroll for all employees on a biweekly schedule in compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements
- Confirm employee data updates are accurate according to supportive documentation
- Validate the balancing of all payroll files prior to seeking approval to transmit the file to the bank
- Administer remittances to government institutions
- Develop and maintain processes to monitor tax compliance issues and concerns for employees
- Support HR Generalists to answer payroll related questions and investigate and provide information to resolve any discrepancies.
- Plan and lead the year end process, working closely with HR Manager, Director, HR, HRIS Advisor, and finance.
- Generate and deliver statutory government filing such as ROE’s, T4’s, and T4A’s accurately and within the regulated timeline.
- Respond to auditor and finance enquiries demonstrating the accuracy of the payroll process
- Maintain payroll process documentation, updating it when the process is amended or updated
- Ensures integrity of the payroll system through ongoing quality improvement, auditing, testing and education to end users.
- Work with the finance department to reconcile payroll expenses and provide payroll related financial information.
- Maintain benefit enrollment information in payroll system and benefit providers software, preparing reports as required.
- Validate all benefit provider invoices and submit for approval and payment.
- Support the completion of union dues reporting, and partner with finance to prepare union invoicing.
- Partner with TSSA’s records lead to archive records and implement the disposal and destruction rules.
Job Qualifications:
- 3 - 4 years experience of delivering payroll is required
- University degree in accounting, finance, business, or human resources
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is required
- Experience working in UKG is preferred
- Experience delivering payroll in a self management environment is an asset
- Proficiency in payroll software and advanced excel
- Demonstrated knowledge proficiency in related provisions of the Income Tax Act, Ontario Employment Standards Act, pension regulations, and WSIB reporting
- Engages in personal continuous improvement, remaining well versed in changes to the payroll system and government rules
- Excellent attention to detail, with proven ability to work to a high standard of accuracy
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, handling time sensitive enquiries with accuracy and speed.

- Data mind-set and good understanding of data architecture
