The Position
The primary responsibilities of the Payroll and Human Resources Coordinator is the administration of United Active Living's time and attendance and payroll system, as well as benefits administration and WCB management, and administrative support to Human Resources.
Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
First point of contact for employees for time and attendance and payroll
Process payroll and maintain payroll information as required:
o Data entry and review for all time and attendance and personnel transactions such as new hire, salary changes, benefit deductions terminations, etc.
o Statistics Canada and CRA reporting
o Generation of journal entries and other reports
Administer enrolments for group benefits
Administer and coordinate information in regards to criminal record checks, WCB, E-schedule etc.
Accurately maintain paper and electronic employee files;
Remains current with new and revised payroll regulations and Alberta Employment Standards
Time and Attendance, Payroll and Human Resources Management Systems
Research and resolve problems, perform scheduled activities and liaison with service providers
Prepare and maintain standard and ad hoc reports, queries and conduct appropriate audits to ensure data integrity
Human Resources Support
Compile HR statistics data in conjunction with the HR Advisor
Back up support for the HR Advisor
Prepare and maintain new hire paperwork, policy signoff, maintenance of employee records etc.
Facilitation of employee training sessions in regards to benefits, payroll, WCB, etc.
Special projects as required
Administrative Support
Provide reports on projects as required for Human Resources, Accounting and members of the Senior Leadership team:
o Preparation of documents and follow-up on timelines and deliverables
o Research on processes, procedures etc.
o Attend project meetings and participate on cross-functional teams
Qualifications
- A minimum of five years of experience with primary responsibility for time and attendance, payroll and benefits administration;
- A minimum of two to three years of experience supporting human resources functions
- CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) and PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designations are an asset;
- Demonstrated end to end payroll processing knowledge; full cycle, total payroll experience is a must have;
- Strong excel skills;
- Effective time management abilities combined with the ability to prioritize and multitask;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong background working with data and conducting analysis;
- Strong results driven project management skills;
- Strong understanding of payroll and HR legislation and processes: i.e. interpretation of legislation;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills;
- Excellent customer focus and relationship building skills.
