Our client is looking to hire a Human Resources and Payroll Generalist to join their growing team of 300+ employees in the provinces of Ontario and Alberta. This role is on-site at our client's Brantford office location.
Job Summary:
The HR and Payroll Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and tactical support to the HR department, managing benefits administration, payroll processing, onboarding and offboarding programs, and other HR related functions. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of HR processes and contributing to a positive employee experience.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Administration:
- Process and manage the company’s payroll for all 300+ employees in Canada, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing.
- Manage electronic timekeeping systems or manually collect and review timesheets.
- Calculate payable hours, commissions, bonuses, tax withholdings, and deductions.
- Prepare and issue earnings statements as needed.
- Calculate statutory holiday pay, vacation pay, and other ad-hoc payments.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee questions.
Benefits Administration:
- Facilitate employee enrolment in benefits programs.
- Oversee the benefits administration process, maintaining communication with providers and brokers.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for addressing employee inquiries.
- Manage the company’s RRSP program, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Software & Records Management:
- Review and manage HR software updates and changes related to payroll and benefits administration.
- Manage and support employee databases related to payroll and benefits administration.
- Collaborate with the HR department to accurately maintain employee data.
Onboarding & Offboarding:
- Welcome new employees to the organization by conducting orientation, related paperwork and HRIS administration.
- Prepare paperwork and documentation related to employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Conduct exit interviews and provide feedback to management.
- Calculate final payments, including severance pay, vacation pay, and other entitlements.
- Process the Record of Employment in a timely manner.
- Support in equipment return, access revoking, and other related tasks.
Other:
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
- Provide support across the HR department as needed.
Candidate Qualifications:
Education:
- A degree or diploma in HR or related field.
- Professional HR designation (CHRP) is an asset
Experience:
- 1+ years experience in Payroll administration in Ontario (Alberta experience would be an asset)
- 2+ years experience as an HR Administrator, HR Coordinator, HR Generalist, or similar role.
- Experience in benefits administration would be an asset.
Knowledge:
- Well-versed in respective Employment legislation, and other relevant regulations (Health and Safety, Pay Equity, Accessibility Act, Worker’s Compensation, etc).
- Experience with HR systems & programs including Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and HRIS (Payworks).
- Familiarity with payroll systems and software, understanding of payroll procedures, calculations, and tax regulations.
Abilities:
- Ability to be flexible to meet employee/company needs, and deadlines.
- Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
