POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for the preparation and processing of payroll for the Cormorant Group of Companies. This role collects, verifies and processes payroll information, determines pay and benefit entitlements for employees, maintains accurate payroll records, and reports on payroll information within a department, company or any of its divisions as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze timesheets and follow up with supervisor regarding issues;
- Administers the full payroll cycle using Dayforce HCM;
- Maintains current employee information in the payroll software and employee personnel files;
- Calculates employee and employer withholdings and contributions;
- Applies employee payroll deductions as required;
- Keeps apprised of income tax, EI, CPP and taxable benefit regulations;
- Ensures compliance with privacy rules and regulations;
- Prepares labour hours and cost reports for various departments;
- Monitors vacation scheduling and vacation pay accounts;
- Calculates Workers Compensation calculation and conducts the annual report reconciliation while observing province specific rules and regulations;
- Assist in the preparation and filing of T4 and T4A slips;
- Issues and files Records of Employment;
- Processes monthly remittances for various trade union locals;
- Maintains union dues calculations;
- Ensures compliance with the Employment Standards Act;
- Adheres to all company policies, standards, procedures and safe work practices; and,
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- 2-3 years of direct experience in a payroll administration role;
- Undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate in Accounting or Finance;
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute preferred;
- Experience interpreting and applying union collective bargaining agreements as they pertain to compensation and benefits would be an asset;
- Strong ability to pay attention to detail and perform tasks accurately;
- Strong ability to maintain confidentiality in the course of work;
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities in order to meet deadlines;
- Knowledge of Dayforce HCM and JONAS Accounting software would be an asset; and,
- Experience in the electrical and/or construction industry would be considered an asset.
