We are looking for a senior-level accounting professional who can multi-task in a fast pacing environment, excels in reporting, is able to manage full cycle bookkeeping, is detailed oriented with willingness to roll up the sleeves to dive deeper in the details.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordination & Reporting: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information for accounting and reporting, and support leadership with ad hoc and regular reporting requests.
Accounting & Reconciliation: Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and ensure adherence to policies for several entities. Prepare reconciliations of Balance Sheet Accounts and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
GST & Tax Filing: Prepare and file GST returns for Canadian companies and assist with payroll and corporate tax filings.
Cash Flow & Financial Reports: Prepare weekly cash flow, working capital KPI reports, and monthly group reporting packages. Ensure the accuracy of financial disclosures for year-end financial statements.
Reporting Solutions: Recommend solutions for reporting significant financial transactions and ensure timely implementation.
Team Leadership & Support: Lead or support accounting projects (month-end, year-end reporting, system optimization), coach and supervise senior accounting staff, and address queries from auditors.
Compliance & Auditing: Ensure financial reporting complies with ASPE and respond to audit and internal reviewer inquiries.
Full-Cycle Accounting: Works with accounts payable/receivable, inventory, payroll, billing, banking, and prepare financial statements and monthly results analysis.
Transaction Accuracy & Auditing: Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and are clearly auditable, including the review of revenue and expense accruals.
Mergers & Acquisitions: Assist in the integration of newly acquired companies and transitioning them to the corporate ERP system.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field – A strong foundation in accounting principles and financial reporting.
Professional Accounting Designation Candidate – Such as a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Candidate or equivalent, which is essential for higher-level accounting and financial management roles.
Experience
5+ years of accounting experience – At least several years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliation, with exposure to full-cycle accounting.
Experience in managing or coordinating with internal teams – This includes working with stakeholders across departments and managing team projects.
Experience in financial reporting and compliance – Strong background in preparing consolidated financial reports, reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with standards ASPE.
Experience with ERP systems – Familiarity with Great Plains and Solver
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel – For managing complex financial data, preparing reports, and performing analysis.
Strong knowledge of accounting software and systems – Familiarity with accounting Great Plains and Solver
Understanding of GST, payroll, and tax filings – Knowledge of Canadian GST filing requirements and payroll processes.
Financial Analysis and Reporting – Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements, balance sheets, and KPI reports.
Soft Skills
Attention to Detail – Precision in reviewing financial documents, reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of transactions.
Leadership and Team Management – Ability to coach, supervise, and support junior staff members, such as Senior Accountants and AR/AP staff.
Strong Communication Skills – Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both internal stakeholders and external auditors.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking – Skill in identifying financial issues, recommending solutions, and implementing changes.
Time Management and Organizational Skills – Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, particularly around month-end and year-end reporting cycles.
Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) – Particularly important if the company adheres to ASPE rather than IFRS or other accounting standards.
Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions – Involvement in integrating newly acquired companies and managing transitions to new systems.
Familiarity with GST and Tax Filing for Canadian Companies – In-depth understanding of Canada-specific tax rules and filings.
