This is a perfect position for a motivated, detail-oriented, university-educated candidate with a background in accounting and an interest in commercial real estate who is seeking a challenging position with future growth potential. The role is to provide competent full-cycle accounting and analytical support to a boutique real estate investment and property management firm with a growing portfolio. You will handle properties in several Canadian provinces in a variety of real estate classes. The successful candidate will possess a natural inclination to work within a defined process while helping to grow the business by adding value to every business transaction.
We are seeking a proactive candidate with strong communication and advanced computer literacy to play a key role in the accounting process of an independent office that offers a busy working environment where there is a combination of standard cyclical tasks and challenging projects and opportunities for professional growth.
Key accounting functions are overseeing rent collection, maintaining accounting/bookkeeping functions including accounts receivables (including bank deposits) and payables, bank reconciliations, general ledger, government remittances (HST and payroll), and compilation of financial reports and statements.
Keys to Success
To be considered for this key position you must have either at least 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience or a demonstrated competence in accounting or finance.
Post-secondary education in a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) as well as proven advanced computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are essential. Experience with Yardi will be highly favoured.
Always acting in a highly professional and customer-oriented manner, you must have excellent written and oral English communication and interpersonal skills. You can work both independently and take direction as part of a closely-knit team and be able to multi-task with minimal supervision.
You thrive on being organized and efficient, with a genuine drive to organize and improve the process, with excellent attention to detail and quality delivery. You are reliable, resourceful and flexible. This position requires attendance in the office on a daily basis, typically from 9am - 5pm.
What We Offer
There is an attractive compensation and benefits plan in place for the successful candidate as well as further opportunities for growth and development and parking is included. This role, particularly in light of the entrepreneurial nature of this dynamic firm, provides a rare opportunity to be exposed to and develop skills throughout a wider scope of commercial property management, managerial and financial functions.
The contemporary offices are located in a thriving, interesting hip neighbourhood with excellent access to many amenities including great shops and restaurants within 10 minutes of the downtown core.
