Summary
The Finance Assistant supports the Finance Manager in providing financial, administrative, and clerical services to ensure efficient and accurate operations within the finance department. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant must adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Gitsegukla financial and personnel policies and procedures.

What you will do
Day-to-day Transaction Processing:
- Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services.
- Ensure transactions comply with financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare, verify, and process invoices and payment documents.
- Prepare invoices for submission and vendor cheques for distribution.
- Maintain updated vendor files and file numbers.
Payroll:
- Verify employee hours of work and obtain necessary coding and signatures.
- Prepare payroll for submission and distribute pay stubs.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain a filing system for all financial documents.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of financial and employee files.
- Prepare purchase order receipts for submission.
- Ensure all cheques are endorsed by authorized signatories.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Some experience in office administration, bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance is preferred.
- High School Diploma or an equivalent.
Skill Sets and Competencies
· Has a strong personal interest and commitment to Gitsegukla First Nation’s vision, mission and values.
· Knowledge of and previous work experience with First Nations Communities and Indigenous Cultures is a definite asset.
· Knowledge of office administration and basic bookkeeping procedures.
· Understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
· Proficiency in payroll functions and maintaining accuracy in financial and payroll information.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding financial and employee files.
· Awareness of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Employment Standards Act (2000).
· Familiarity with Gitsegukla Programs & Services and Personnel Policies and Procedures.
· Strong interpersonal, bookkeeping, analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills.
· Effective verbal and listening communication skills, organizational abilities, and proficiency in computerized accounting, spreadsheets, word processing programs, and email.
· Strong financial calculation knowledge and skills.
- Ability to collaborate well with managers from various departments and work flexible hours as needed.
· Proficient communication skills both written and verbal.
· Ability to support a high-performing team in a demanding environment by taking initiative, prioritizing needs, and meeting tight deadlines.
· Is a collaborator and can work independently as well as with others.
· Able to exercise diplomacy, tact and good judgment.
· Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
· Valid criminal record (CPIC) check.
