Job Summary
We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to support daily financial operations and ensure accurate record-keeping within our accounting department. The Accounting Specialist will handle essential accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) tasks, assist in preparing financial reports, and support the finance team in managing general ledger entries and month-end processes.
Principal Accountabilities – Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Process routine accounts payable transactions, including invoice processing and vendor payments.
- Set up and maintain vendor and customer profiles in the accounting system.
- Prepare monthly HST reports for review and submission to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
- Investigate basic accounts receivable discrepancies and coordinate with internal teams to resolve chargebacks.
- Prepare customer statements and assist with aging receivables and payables reporting.
- Organize backup documentation for cheque runs and vendor payments.
- Assist with credit card transaction monitoring and reconcile statements.
- Support the month-end closing process by posting general ledger entries and reviewing expense accounts.
- Maintain records of monthly accruals and assist with accrual reversals as needed.
- Help prepare monthly cash flow reports and track travel & entertainment expenses.
- Contribute to the year-end process by organizing supporting schedules and documentation.
- Assist in training new team members on invoice processing and general accounting procedures.
- Support the implementation and upkeep of internal controls and financial procedures.
- Participate in ad hoc financial projects as assigned by the Senior Accounting Specialist or Finance Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a mid-sized organization.
- Basic understanding of GAAP or IFRS and general accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (experience with SAP is an asset).
- Intermediate Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting systems.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- High level of integrity, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and compliance with financial regulations.
