Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries is a not-for-profit organization that has been caring for families in the GTA since 1826. We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to join our finance team at our Head Office in East York.
Overview:
The Accounting Clerk (Clerk) is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical support for MPG.
Duties:
- Matching, coding, entering high volume of invoices
- Interacting with other departments and locations to resolve AP issues
- Perform timely and accurately check run weekly, Vendor cheques, EFT & Wire Payments within well-defined procedures and policies
- Post and process adjusting journal entries for month-end and year-end
- Respond to internal & external inquiries, statement reconciliation and resolving outstanding balances on vendor accounts
- Ensuring invoices and financial records are filled and stored in an organized manner.
- Assigning account numbers to expense reports and invoices using established procedures and policies as well as independent judgement.
- Ensuring proper back up and authorization has been received for the payment of invoices.
- Negotiating interest charges and costs, which have been assessed in error with suppliers.
- Keeping alert to inordinate increases in certain expenses.
- Ensuring that projects and expenditures are included in the current budget and investigating deviations.
- Performing necessary year-end work relating to the Accounts Payable subsystem.
- Assist others when requested in order to meet departmental deadlines.
- Assist with budgeting or year-end variance checking.
- Communicate with suppliers (and others) regarding the status of our accounts.
- Communicate with the Purchasing Department (and others) to ensure that the correct amounts are being paid in a timely manner.
Requirements:
- At least a one (1) year college certificate/diploma or higher in business and/or other related disciplines
- At least two (2) years of previous experience as an Accounting Clerk or a similar role
- Strong interpersonal skills to allow for the ability to build effective relationships within own team and with key stakeholders
- Ability to make decisions on typical day-to-day issues
- Excellent priority setting, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge of compliance regulations for organizations working within the not-for-profit sector
- Knowledge of Financial and ERP systems, Navision experience would be an asset
- Intermediate proficiency of Windows and MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to multi-task in a busy environment and work with minimal supervision
