Purpose and Scope
The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing financial and administrative support to the Controller in order to ensure effective, efficient and accurate administrative operations for Cancoil Thermal Corporation and its associated companies.
Organizational Relationship
The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller.
Working Conditions
Works as a member of the accounting team. This is an onsite position. Overtime as required.
Duties
1. Support the Controller in providing accurate and timely financial information to the management team.
2. Provide detailed financial analysis (month over month and year over year) to identify and report on any variances.
3. Oversee the month end and year end closing and produce the necessary reports for each period.
4. Prepare financial statements for the various companies.
5. Oversee the accounting team (AP and AR) to ensure the accuracy and integrity of daily transactions.
6. Prepare and enter intercompany invoices.
7. Prepare, enter and post journal entries (e.g. payroll, adjusting entries etc.) as required for the companies.
8. Liaise with external bookkeeping/accounting teams.
9. Calculate, enter and file of Corporate tax and other withholdings: HST, WSIB EHT, etc.
10. Prepare Bank reconciliations for all associated companies.
11. Assist and validate cheque runs.
12. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Controller.
Technical Skills and Prior Experience
1. Minimum three years of experience in intermediate accounting roles.
2. Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
3. Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, post, correct and manage financial records.
4. High level of proficiency with Excel.
5. Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office and other applications.
6. Excellent knowledge of accounting principles.
7. Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
8. Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
9. Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
10. Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills
Education
BA in business/Accounting, CPA preferred
