More than 125 continuous years of operation and 4 generations of family ownership later, Leth Iron now proudly operates a modern production foundry of over 110,000 square feet on 7 acres of land. Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for directing and managing the company's accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures. They also oversee the preparation of financial statements and reporting to Senior Leadership Team. The position supervises a team of five employees including Accounting, IT, Purchasing and Receiving. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) in person position based at our Lethbridge facility.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the accounting operations including the review of general ledger, journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of external regulatory reporting
- Oversee the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain and improve internal controls to ensure compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE)
- Manage and comply with local, provincial and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations for cost savings and financial performance improvements
- Lead the preparation of financial reports for senior leadership, ownership group, and external stakeholders
- Serve as the point of contact for external auditors and ensure successful completion of audits
- Manage inventory valuation, costing, and reconciliation
- Ensure effective management of pension plan and insurance contract
- Work with operations to define, measure, analyze, improve and control current processes which impact internal operating efficiency.
- Work with sales team on product pricing, costing and margins.
- Supporting new systems or project selections and implementation from a strategic finance and internal control perspective
- Promotes and maintains positive corporate relations with the local financial community
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Plant Accountant and other team members
- Some business travel is required to attend conferences etc.
- Additional controller duties as necessary
Ideal Candidate Profile
- University degree in Business/Accounting, with professional accounting designation CPA
- Experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management
- Experience in the manufacturing industry will be considered a strong asset
- Minimum of 2-3 years of management and or supervisory experience
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local requirements regarding financial records, pension, profit sharing, and the like is essential.
- Ability to understand the IT requirements of the business as well as risk mitigation
- Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
- Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience
- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and applications
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel
- Good project management skills and the ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward the work at hand
- Experience with an ERP computer system is an asset
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
- Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
- High attention to detail in all areas of work

Pay: $66,096.33-$117,065.44 per year
