Position Summary
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial operations of the organization by ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective financial management. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently. The Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the finance team and cross-functional departments to support financial planning, auditing processes, and internal controls.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and other relevant standards.
- Analyze financial statements to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management and external stakeholders.
General Ledger Management:
- Oversee the maintenance and reconciliation of the general ledger accounts.
- Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Financial Analysis and Planning:
- Conduct detailed financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Perform monthly job and equipment costing analysis.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, policies, and internal controls.
- Coordinate and support external audits, including the preparation of necessary documentation and responses to auditor inquiries.
- Maintain banking reporting and ensure compliance with banking covenants.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Team Leadership and Support:
- Mentor and support junior accountants and accounting staff, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and resolve accounting-related issues.
- Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
Special Projects:
- Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives, including system implementations, process improvements, and financial analyses.
- Perform ad-hoc analyses and reporting as requested by senior management.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in full-cycle, progressive accounting roles
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
