POSITION: BOOKKEEPER
JOB TYPE: Full Time, Maternity Leave
LOCATION: Grande Prairie, Alberta
JOB SUMMARY:
The Agency is assisting Burnham Law in finding a full time Bookkeeper to join their team as coverage for a maternity leave. Burnham Law is a well-established and highly experienced law firm in Grande Prairie, Alberta. They are built on a foundation of collaboration and cooperation as they take on challenges together, while providing the local community and surrounding areas with the legal services they require. We are seeking an individual who takes initiative and is highly organized with great time management skills to join a growing and dynamic firm as their Bookkeeper and Payroll Administrator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all bookkeeping tasks related to month-end reports and year-end compliance with the Law Society
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
- Create year-end working paper files and reconciliations for the Firm’s accountants, including annual partnerships returns
- Liaise with the Firm’s financial institution regarding banking needs and annual filings
- Prepare for and oversee external audits (e.g., LSA, CRA)
- Administer bi-weekly payroll, including T4s, source deductions, GST filings, and other necessary returns
- Calculate and process bonus compensation
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, Esilaw, and Law Society By-Laws and regulations
- Manage office accounts payable, expenses, business insurance, and employee benefit plans
REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to communicate effectively via phone, email and in person
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Well organized, quick learner, and proactive professional with a positive attitude
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
- Experience with Esilaw is considered an asset
- Basic bookkeeping and invoice drafting experience
- Experience managing accounts payables
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a team
