Job Description: The ideal candidate will have significant experience in managing financial operations within the medium to large-scale electrical construction projects sector. This role requires close collaboration with the leadership team to establish budgets, forecasts, and ensure the financial health of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and execute the entire accounting cycle, including year-end and month-end accounting tasks.
- Prepare and analyze Financial Statements and identify variances.
- Develop budgets and report variances to management and owners.
- Collaborate closely with owners and project management to enhance processes and systems, including adapting financial policies and procedures to meet evolving needs and environment.
- Forecast, calculate, and recognize unearned revenue in consultation with management. This includes job costing, labor tracking, and computation of Work in Progress (WIP).
- Perform bank reconciliations for companies and intercompany transactions.
- Manage multiple payrolls for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring compliance with all government reporting and remittance requirements.
- Supervise credit granting, collections, and legal proceedings.
- Design and generate specialized reports for the leadership team and create ad-hoc and standardized reporting as required.
- Administer the group insurance plan for employees.
- Coordinate with company insurance and bonding agents, including property and vehicles.
- Maintain and update settings in both Jonas Premier and Quickbooks, such as retail taxes, payroll taxes, etc.
- Maintain continuity schedules and depreciation entries.
- Ensure compliance at all levels, including government, banking agreements, bonders, and insurance.
- Monitor cash flow.
- Review contract terms as needed to align with Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration degree, CPA preferred.
· 5 – 10 years experience as a Controller or similar role in the electrical construction industry, with a focus on medium to large-scale projects.
· Strong knowledge of financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide strategic financial insights.
· Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Jonas Premier or Enterprise Construction software experience or other similar ERP software.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization.
· Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
