Job Title: Senior Financial Accountant
Pay: $45-$50 per hour
Position Type: Temporary, Full-time (3 months)
Hours: Monday- Friday; Steady days
Work Location: Regina, SK
Summary
The Senior Financial Accountant is the most senior financial officer in their particular area of responsibility and is accountable for the ongoing financial operations of that area (accounts receivable, payable, budget and reporting) and has signing authority to review, verify and approve transactions. The Senior Financial Accountant prepares timely and accurate financial reports, and regular maintenance of operating and capital budgets and works in collaboration with department heads, SAHO, government agencies, financial institutions, Canada Revenue Agency in regard to financial matters. Communicates and interprets financial results, prepares reports for the organization and works with the various departments to develop monthly forecasting reports and the annual budget.
Requirements
- Reviews, verifies, approves within signing authority limits, timely and accurate financial and budget information, reports and statements for departments, senior leadership team and the Board of Directors.
- Communicates, interprets financial results and prepares reports on a monthly and ad hoc basis for departments and other management personnel.
- Oversees and authorizes the submission of monthly accounting information, cash treasury for the financial system.
- Identifies problem areas through professional interpretation of operating results and statistics and recommends corrective action as required.
- Develops or provide professional interpretation of operating results, accounting policies and principles, and participates in the development of financial, statistical and/or internal control systems and implements system changes.
- Coordinates audit requirements and communicates with auditors to meet and complete audit requirements.
- Works collaboratively with departments to develop monthly forecasting reports and review variance analysis for reasonability and plausibility.
- Provides input to development and updating of sound financial policies for Health.
- Prepare annual financial statements, notes to the financial statements and all applicable reconciling schedules. Statements may include: Benefit plans, MDS, LAS and CUPE Employment Strategy.
- Liaises with government agencies, financial institutions, Canada Revenue Agency on behalf of the organization.
Qualifications
- University degree and a professional accounting designation (CPA), plus three years’ experience in accounting and financial systems
- Kaizen Basic
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite and related software
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics accounting software applications is an asset
- Ability to manage time and set personal goals and priorities to achieve department results.
- Ability to understand customer needs and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively as part of a cross functional team.
- Must be a competent writer and ability to communicate with peers and customers sufficiently to meet work objectives
