Midwest is a pipeline construction contractor based in Spruce Grove, AB and serves the Oil & Gas Industry in Western Canada. Construction projects are executed in all types of terrain and conditions varying in diameter, length, and complexity. Midwest’s focus is on safety, quality, and relationships with employees, Clients, and vendors.
The Sr. Project Accountant position is a temporary project-based term position on pipeline construction projects and reports directly to the Project Manager and Director of Operations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
•
Management of a field team of administrators and accountants to meet Project requirements.
•
Coordinate Human Resources, Payroll, Benefits, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Office Administration.
•
Management activities of Midwest in accordance with the policies, goals and objectives established by Senior Management, Client requirements and Owners.
•
Assist with the labor relations, safety, compensation, recruitment, training, and benefits.
•
Supervise activities of office services, supplies and the receptionist at head office
•
Responsible for accurate set up of job, cost codes, rates, classifications, equipment and general overview of accounting system
•
Manage all field tickets and invoicing from suppliers and subcontractors on site to ensure daily tickets are received, coded and approved.
•
Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly reporting of local, indigenous spend reporting
•
Ensure all field timesheets are entered daily in cost tracking system and assign cost codes in accordance with the cost tracking system
•
Ensure all billable costs are LEM’d and submitted to the Client in a timely fashion and in accordance with the contractual terms
•
Manage all tracking logs to ensure they are up to date and accurate
•
Participate in cost tracking and reporting activities
•
Complete all invoicing to Client
•
Participate in project audits as required
•

Qualifications/Key Competencies:
•
Preference given to a university graduate with a Finance, Mathematics or Accounting background or an equivalent combination of studies and related experience
•
Must have knowledge of Construction Job Cost and General Ledger Software accounting systems
•
Proficient in computer software systems for the preparation of reports, spreadsheets, and other accounting analysis that may be required by management
•
Excellent computer skills and high proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications
•
Knowledge and proficiency in using DTC, Eclipse, and In Eight software.
•
5+ years’ experience in the pipeline construction industry as well as experience in management of cost control or project accounting activities
•
Superior written and verbal communication skills
•
Excellent time management skills
•
Ability to work well as an integral part of a project team
•
Strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail
•
Able and available to work on a Project schedule (generally 6 days on – Sundays off; 7 AM to 5 PM schedule). This schedule may be subject to change depending on the Project requirements.
