Job Summary
Part of a group of companies, Drake Excavating (2016) Ltd. is a civil and general contracting company, based out of the Lower Mainland of BC. We specialize in municipal infrastructure work, including waterworks, roadworks, and utilities projects. We are seeking a full time Junior Accountant to become an integral part of our accounting team. You will be responsible for day-to-day accounting and overseeing financial activities as well as identifying areas of improvement to increase efficiency. You will be part of a growing team in a fast-paced environment, working closely with all office personnel, reporting directly to Senior Management and the President.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all accounts receivable, including processing and following up on overdue accounts
- Reconcile work in progress, progress billings, holdbacks receivable/payable, and deficiency holdback accounts regularly
- Oversee AP functions and processes, with the ability to provide support as needed
- Oversee and assist with credit card management and reconciliations
- Standardize and implement systems and processes to increase efficiency, accuracy and consistency
- Assist with the tracking of purchase orders to minimize strain on cashflow
- Prioritize and maintain relationships with clients and key vendors
- Reconcile bank account and prepare cash flow summaries weekly and monthly
- Produce monthly financial reporting for the Owners; i.e. financial statements, including job progress reports, AR / AP summaries, and any other reports that may be worth noting or bringing attention to
- Remit and pay government taxes/remittances
- Prepare and submit monthly work-on-hand reports for bonding
- Prepare and submit monthly financial reporting packages to bank; subject to review by Senior Management
- Work closely with Project Managers to provide regular job costing reports and monitor profit targets
- Monitor current overhead margins, identifying cost saving opportunities and reporting to Owners
- Oversee filing of T4's and T5018's
- Maintain digital paper filing systems
- Assist with the development and implementation of project costing procedures, including monthly WIP adjustments, equipment allocations, and intercompany labour adjustments
- Assist with the preparation of year end tax packages for external accountants
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations
- Liaise with bank, insurers, external auditors etc. as required or requested by Owners.
Qualifications:
- University diploma/degree in accounting/finance strongly preferred
- Three years or more relevant experience in the construction field
- Full cycle accounting experience
- Experience with Sage 100 Contractor preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and strong Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; punctuation and grammar skills are mandatory
- Must be a self starter with strong leadership qualities
- Great interpersonal skills and able to receive and give direction
- Team player with the ability to collaborate with others
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Deadline and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
