An established health food distribution company is seeking an experienced and operationally minded Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will be driven with a strong technical accounting background. Specific experience with cost accounting and manufacturing is required.
Reporting to the Owner, this is a “hands on” role with an opportunity to make a significant impact on our company. You will be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial reports and supporting the Owner with information needs in a fast-paced environment that will draw on your proven skills and experience. You will have strong accounting and business skills and understand distribution and inventory management. You will be assisting with accounting, inventory costing, planning and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day financial activities and transactions and complete the posting process for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, banking, payroll, and provincial/federal reporting requirements
- Cash flow forecasting and projection
- Inventory costing and SKU analysis with experience handling high volume and high velocity SKU movement
- Ensure ongoing optimization of accounting and inventory management software
- Pricing, margin analysis and ability to reconcile margin targets
- Fixed and variable costing
- Maintain cost standards for materials and labour including BOM management
- Analysis of inventory adjustments including physical inventories and cycle counts
- Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets and forecasts and account for any budget variances and report significant discrepancies
- Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures and stream-line day-to-day financial processes
- Ensure that all inputs to product pricing models are derived from accurate data and applicable rate
- Preparation of monthly and year-end balance sheets, profit and loss statements and internal financial packages including related variance and account analysis, sales dashboards, reporting and expense statements
- Maintain a comprehensive system of accounting records
- Identify opportunities for improvement, propose solutions and set up processes
- Ensure that financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards
- Assist with any other projects as assigned
- Assist with any accounting related questions
- File Worksafe, EHT, GST Refund, Corporate Tax Instalments
- Manage AP and AR
- Assist with implementation of new accounting and inventory management software
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- 5 years experience in full-cycle accounting
- Strong food production or manufacturing industry experience mandatory
- Proficiency in using Distributec ERP
- Experience implementing new software systems preferred (ERP, CRM)
- Advanced level Excel skills including advanced functions
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills are required
- Ability to multitask and prioritize your workload
- Strong sense of self-motivation and accountability
- Ability to coach and mentor team of accounting clerks to develop their skills and capabilities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
