Finance Manager
Reporting to the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (KIDO) Director, the Finance Manager will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing the Finance Department while ensuring operational needs are met. The Finance Manager will manage the development of financial reports, ensure KIDO financial operations are functioning smoothly, and work collaboratively with other finance staff within the Nation to ensure financial processes and best practices are followed. While this role will be supporting the overall financial structure of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Nation, the Finance Manager will specifically focus on the financial management of the Child and Family Services Operations of KIDO.
This position may be located in either Thunder Bay or Big Trout Lake and will remotely support the financial operation of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation. If based in Thunder Bay, travel to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation in Big Trout Lake may occasionally be required.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
· Lead the development of budgets and budget controls.
· Collaborate with and support KIDO Department Directors in developing long-term financial plans and forecasts.
· Drive initiatives to enhance financial performance, optimize resource allocation, and achieve KIDO’s strategic goals.
· Manage KIDO’s cash flows to ensure sufficient funds are allocated and available for operational needs.
· Identify risks and implement risk mitigation strategies to improve KIDO’s financial processes and controls.
· Mentor and support finance department staff and facilitate skill development.
Financial Reporting
· Lead internal and external financial reporting processes and audits.
· Develop key performance indicators and monitor indicators to support the attainment of operational and business goals.
· Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting processes.
· Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making.
· Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all financial functions.
Account and Transaction Management
· Review and approve purchase orders and payments ensuring compliance with applicable policies and budget restrictions.
· Manage and obtain funding agreements in collaboration with the Senior Financial Administrator, Department Directors, and funders.
· Review and approve payroll entries in SAGE 300 software ensuring consistency with IBEX payroll software and benefits systems.
· Record and allocate received funds to departments utilizing SAGE 300 software.
· Prepare bank reconciliations and identify transactions that require further investigation.
· Monitor and ensure the timely payment of invoices following applicable payment terms, policies, and procedures.
Relationship Management
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
· Leverage partnerships with funding agencies, suppliers, and auditors to ensure reporting compliance.
· Support finance team members in their learning and development of financial processes, standards, and best practices.
· Lead finance projects as assigned by the KIDO Director.

Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of financial requirements relating to First Nations accounting practices.
· Strong financial management skills with demonstrated experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, and problem-solving.
· Ability to lead a team while supporting professional and departmental development.
· Proficiency in cloud-based accounting software.
· Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
· Effective written and oral communications skills, including the ability to prepare and present reports, policies, and Council documents.
· Ability to speak Anishininiimowin is considered an asset.
Experience and Education Requirements
· A bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting or equivalent.
· An accounting designation such as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM), Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator (CAPA) or relevant certification is considered an asset.
· A minimum of 5-7 years of related experience. Previous accounting experience in a First Nation Community is considered an asset.
· Previous experience leading a team is considered an asset.
· Previous experience working with Sage 300 software is considered an asset.
· Previous experience working within Child and Family Services departments is considered an asset.
