Description:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator processes bi-weekly payroll, year-end T4s and administers various benefit programs for approximately 275 full-time and part-time employees.
While primary responsibility of this role will be Payroll & Benefits, successful candidate will be responsible for other accounting and/or human resource related functions within our Business Office team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Liaise with internal managers and external parties, using various modes of communication, to receive or provide information needed for payroll and benefit processing;
- Process electronic timesheets to ensure accurate and timely completion of bi-weekly payroll;
- Prepare monthly remittances for pension, benefits and union dues;
- Perform monthly reconciliation of all payroll-related general ledger liability or clearing accounts;
- Complete payroll year-end including T4s, pension reconciliation and EHT return;
- Act as subject matter expert (SME) for Ceridian Dayforce application to assist managers and scheduling department.
Basic Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or equivalent;
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation from National Payroll Institute;
- 3-5 years’ work experience in an automated payroll environment (within the last 5 years), preferably in a 24/7, unionized, healthcare setting;
- Proficiency with Windows applications, including Word and Excel;
- Demonstrated understanding of legal regulations with regards to a health care setting (for example Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care), multiple collective agreements, Employment Standards Act, and Income Tax Act/Canada Revenue Agency;
- Solid accounting knowledge;
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a variety of individuals (oral and written);
- Strong customer service skills;
- Proven ability to attend work regularly
