We’re seeking an Accounting Manager to ensure the accurate and timely execution of transactional finance for the company, as well as assistance with specific requests for reports or data, as needed. As the Accounting Managerat Dog and Pony Studios, you are the lead resource for bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring all revenue and cost items are properly processed to enable accurate, real-time reporting of the company’s financial results. You embody the DPS attitude internally, and to our clients and suppliers. You assist in providing reports and operational support for other areas of the DPS, including Operations, Human Resources and the Creative and Digital divisions.
What you’ll do:
- Timely and accurate billing of all DPS projects and related collection activities
- Accurately capture all payables and expenses and manage payment dates to maximize the DPS cash position
- Reconcile accounting system account balances against supporting documentation, including maintenance of sub-ledger data for key balance sheet accounts
- Support compensation and payroll processes for the DPS team, including all Canadian employees, freelancers, and members of our global team
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the creative and digital teams to capture billing for all projects. This includes ensuring out-of-pocket costs and scope changes are captured and properly invoiced.
- Generate all project invoices in the accounting system, including draft invoices for multiple-stage/billing projects.
- Manage collection processes proactively by working with clients to minimize the aging of the Accounts Receivable file.
- Manage all aspects of accounts payable for DPS, including validating supplier invoices against approved budgets or contracts, managing bill input through the accounting system workflow, and making weekly payment summaries for the management to execute.
- Prepare payments for management approval in various banking and cash management platforms.
- Download relevant statements and transaction files, as needed.
- Identify pending expenses and create draft bills to ensure reports and dashboards reflect accurate P&L projections, upcoming cash requirements and more.
- Manage all aspects of payroll for Canadian and global team members.
- Reconcile activity for all client retainers, providing reports as needed.
- Journal timely draw-downs of deferred revenue as projects execute.
- Demonstrate proof of monthly account reconciliation.
- Maintain all necessary financial records in Google Drive, Dext and Quickbooks (such as receipts, financial statements, etc.)
- Calculate, file, and respond to any enquiries regarding all mandatory taxes, including HST, corporate income, and any other taxes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Superior communication skills
- Three years of experience in a similar role in a service-based business
- CPA designation preferred or in progress
- Experience with full-cycle accounting, year-end close and reconciliations
- Be highly organized and detail-oriented, ensuring financial inputs are accurate and maintained in a timely manner
- Switch between different tasks and priorities quickly, as required
- Continually seek areas for process improvements and bring them forward to your management for review and possible implementation
- Maintain a positive and collegial attitude and professional demeanour, internally and externally
- Diplomatically handle issues, respect DPS and client confidentiality, and adhere to our DPS values
