Our client is a very successful, privately owned conglomerate that has operated for 100+ years. This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days/week in the office. Our client boasts offices across Ontario, and you have the flexibility to base your "home" office in Halton or Niagara (with at least 1 day/week in Niagara).
The Division Controller reports to the Director of Finance and leads a team of 8 staff, including 2 Managers, including several high-performing CPA's. As the Division Controller, you will oversee the Finance function and month end close for the company's largest division. In the capacity of Division Controller, you will ensure the division's financial records are accurate and complete. You will review and analyze monthly financial statements prepared in accordance with ASPE. You will be a true Finance Business Partner to the Operations Management Team and provide valuable analysis to support business decisions. You will also be responsible for completion of the corporate tax returns and tax provisions.
To be considered for the position of Division Controller, you must be a designated CPA with 7+ years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 5+ years at the Controller level. You should possess strong fundamental accounting skills in order to oversee the division's accounting and finance function. You should have strong leadership skills and experience leading a team. You must also have hands-on Canadian corporate tax experience with preparing the corporate tax returns. Due to the complex nature of the division's operations, the client will only consider candidates with strong manufacturing experience.
Please note this position requires travel to the division's sites (across Ontario) on an ongoing basis. It will be expected that you visit each location multiple times per year. Please do not apply to this position if you cannot/will not travel by car for business.
CPA designation
7+ years of relevant work experience including 5 years as a Controller
Manufacturing industry experience
Large ERP experience (SAP or Oracle)
Strong Excel skills
Prior people management including managing CPA's
Lead the financial accounting and reporting functions for the Division, ensuring that effective controls are in place for the accuracy, reasonableness, and completeness of the financial results through a detailed understanding and ownership of the accounting processes and core operational systems.
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements in accordance with Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises (“ASPE”) and other relevant regulations.
Oversee the maintenance of all general and subsidiary ledger accounts to ensure the integrity of financial information gathered and reported.
Support the business unit by advising on accounting and finance issues related to current matters and future opportunities and provide support to cross-functional teams, as appropriate.
Coordinate and assist in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, planning processes, and forecasting to help senior management analyze anticipated financial results.
Prepare year-end working paper files and supporting documentation for the annual audited financial statements and corporate tax returns.
Prepare & file annual corporate tax returns and estimates for the annual year-end.
Continuously involve with KPI development and reporting, including continuous financial monitoring to support data-driven decision-making.
Attend operating and financial review meetings to maintain current business knowledge and provide financial analysis as required.
