General Description
The Commercial Property Accountant will report to the Director of Accounting and is responsible for the accounting functions within the Commercial portfolio.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger and annual working paper files for the Commercial portfolio by posting year-end journal entries and preparing financial statements
- Generate monthly financial statements and budget to actual analysis report
- Perform monthly reconciliation of control accounts (AR, AP, last month’s rent, LMR interest) to subsidiary ledgers, inter-company balances, schedules of balance sheet accounts
- Maintain capital budget and fixed asset module, including amortization of fixed assets
- Prepare year-end TMI reconciliations and assemble the necessary details and back-up for the tenant’s use and respond to tenant inquiries to CAM and RT invoices
- Work directly with the realty tax consultant on tax bills and tenant allocations
- Reconcile inter-company and or/inter-property accounts monthly
- Other duties/projects as assigned from time to time
Required Skills And Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial property accounting experience with all aspects of accounting with shopping centers/retail property accounting (TMI reconciliations, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of Yardi Voyageur, and advanced working knowledge of MS Excel and Word is required
- Experience and knowledge of all aspects of year-end working papers preparation and Caseware preferred
- College/University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Accounting designation or in progress preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
