Position Summary:
The Tutoring and Learning Centre (TLC) Accounting Advisor leads the provision of TLC accounting support services and contributes to the provision of mathematics and other general learning supports for GBC students – online and in-person. In support of instruction and under general direction of the Sr. Manager, Learning Support Services, the TLC Accounting Advisor leads development and delivery of accounting tutoring, course-embedded tutorials for the foundational accounting course, peer learning groups, and contributes to development of math/numeracy/academic learning needs ranging from general skill development to skill remediation of at-risk students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the provision of accounting learning support and will contribute to the provision of mathematics and other general learning supports for GBC students – online and in-person.
- Assess needs and opportunities, plan service delivery and evaluate service effectiveness, in collaboration with the TLC staff team and college partners.
- Develop and facilitate programming in alignment with the TLC mandate, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), hybrid learning, and best practices in the field.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, assign responsibilities, mentor, and evaluate all student employees delivering accounting support services and contribute to same for the general group of TLC peer tutors and peer leader staff.
- Liaise with faculty and staff, primarily in the Centre for Business to develop, create, facilitate, and schedule the provision of academic support for accounting, including tutoring, peer learning groups, and course-embedded tutorials for the foundational accounting course.
- Develop and/or contribute to the TLC’s Tutor Training and Development Program and TLC’s Peer Leader Training Program and contribute to facilitation of same.
- Develop or oversee development and/or curation of learning resources related to accounting and will contribute to same related to math and general learning support.
- Mentor student staff delivering accounting tutoring support and will contribute to same for the TLC student staff.
- Provide ongoing mentorship to Peer Leaders, including regular weekly feedback on learning materials and tutorial plans prepared by accounting student staff to ensure content is relevant to course learning outcomes and tutorial scope, and material is accessible to a wide range of learners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Four-year degree plus professional certification or equivalent in education, accounting, business, mathematics or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institute.
- Post-bachelor level coursework related to accounting, mathematics and/or learning skills education at a post-secondary education institution.
- Five (5) years’ experience tutoring as well as providing learning strategy support in formal contexts of an adult education environment.
- One (1) year of experience in training, mentorship, and supervision or team leadership.
