Accounting Assistant
We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to join our team. We are a growing, mid-sized firm located in Calgary. Our focus is on multi-residential projects throughout Alberta, BC, and working our way into other provinces.

JOB SUMMARY:The Accounting Assistant will support the Controller in managing the day-to-day financial operations and administrative tasks essential to the smooth running of the finance department. This role includes assisting in processing accounts payable/receivables, preparing routine financial reports, and maintaining organized records. The Accounting Assistant will be critical in supporting monthly and year-end closing processes, bank reconciliations, and other financial activities as directed by the Controller. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, organized, and skilled in managing financial data and transactions.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately enter financial data into accounting systems.
- Maintain organized digital and physical records of financial transactions.
- Assist with processing invoices and verifying amounts.
- Prepare and send invoices to clients and follow up on outstanding accounts.
- Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies under supervision.
- Prepare basic financial reports for internal review.
- Reconcile bank/Visa statements and assist in monthly closing processes.
- Organize and file accounting documents and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing documents and compiling reports.
- Provide support in budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Help maintain internal accounting policies and procedures.
- GST preparation.
- Prepare various year-end working papers.
- Help prepare monthly payroll and Year End Review.
WHAT’S REQUIRED:
The Ideal candidate will have the following credentials:
- A recognized degree or certificate in accounting.
- 5 years plus of experience in an accounting or finance role preferred.
- Payroll knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.
- Experience working in a similar support role within an accounting department.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accurately manage multiple tasks.
- Provide coverage for the Controller while unavailable, i.e. on vacation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
