Job Summary
A Richmond-based private company with a small portfolio of both commercial and residential assets is seeking a highly-motivated Accounting Assistant. Reporting to the Controller, the individual calculates, prepares and processes bills, invoices, accounts payable and receivable such as rents and damage deposits, budgets and other financial records according to established procedures.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Under the guidance and instruction of the Controller, assists in preparation and issuing of documents related to accounts, account statements and other financial statements using accounting systems.
- Assists in bank deposits and records.
- Assists in annual operating cost reconciliation and reporting.
- Prepares journal entries to correct accounts and sub-accounts. Performs calculations and makes corrections where necessary.
- Codes, totals, batches entry, verifies and reconciles transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, cheques, invoices, cheque requisitions, and bank statements in a ledger or computer system;
- Under direction by Controller, compiles budget data and documents based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets.
- Assists in the development of preliminary monthly and annual financial statements as directed for review.
- Responds to tenant/vendor inquiries; maintains good customer relations and resolves issues satisfactorily
- Performs related clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, scanning and photocopying.
- Completes credit applications
- Records tenants’ activities in a timely manner
- Any ad hoc assignments as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to work with initiative and be pro-active
- A strong team player able to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships
- Good bookkeeping skills and general accounting knowledge with knowledge of property accounting is an asset.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge in Yardi an asset but will train the right person.
- Strong work ethics and dependable with ability to exercise confidentiality.
