Purpose:
The University Services Centre (USC) is a critical part of York's shift towards Service Excellence. The USC brings together teams across York University's administrative functions into one client-focused service delivery entity. The USC is built on a commitment to client service, accountability, and trust, enabled by an effective service-oriented culture, data-driven practices and simplified processes.The Payroll Clerk role is responsible for processing payroll and employee forms for accurate and timely salary payments, budget expenditures, for over 10,000 employees from multiple employee groups and union affiliations at York. Supporting the USC's commitment to service excellence, the role holistically investigates and responds to client inquiries in a responsive, courteous, and professional manner to provide exceptional service to clients, faculty, staff, and students in a high-volume environment.
Education:
Community college diploma in accounting, booking, payroll, business administration, or a related field or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is required.
Experience:
Two (2) years' recent full cycle payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment, including calculations and processing with an in-house payroll solution, process off cycle payments, Record of Employment, and year-end processing of amendments to T4/T4A. . Experience with PeopleSoft.
Skills:
Knowledge of payroll systems, basic bookkeeping and payroll laws and regulations to ensure accurate payroll processing

Working accurately with numerical data and performing complex calculations
Attending accurately to detail under pressure of high volume to ensure accurate employee pay and compliance with legal requirements
Setting priorities and meeting tight deadlines

Effective customer service skills for addressing queries and resolving discrepancies
Ability to respond positively under pressure and with a sense of urgency and sensitivity
Proficient in the use of MS Suite and technology proficiency with payroll software, spreadsheets, and databases to streamline processes and enhance efficiency
