We are a family-owned Canadian real estate holding company that has been active in British Columbia for over 50 years. The company owns and operates a portfolio of residential, commercial, and agricultural assets located across Greater Vancouver.
Reporting to Senior Management, the Controller is responsible for the oversight of all financial, accounting, payroll activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for budget management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. This is a terrific opportunity for a professional who is well-versed in working closely with senior management and thrives in a position of leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of operating budgets and monthly financial statements
- Prepare and present annual budgets and year-end financial summaries
- Ensure proper reporting standards are utilized; establish monitors and enforce internal controls
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness of reporting (including financial statements, capital plans and amortization schedules, tenant recovery schedules, etc.)
- Have strong knowledge of intercompany transactions, property accounting and manage the accuracy of day-to-day accounting activities
- Manage banking relationships to facilitate appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms as required
- Ensure financial plans are consistent with company objectives by monitoring variances, trends and investigating budget deficiencies
- Manage the preparation of payroll and benefit plan administration for personnel
- Work with external auditors to ensure proper reporting standards are utilized; establish monitors and enforce internal control over financial report
- Keep up-to-date on current Accounting, Tax and HR trends
- Provide leadership and support to Junior Accountant
- Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plans
- Work with management team on higher level analyses of special projects, programs, capital expenditure planning as needed.
The ideal candidate must have:
- 3 to 5 years experience in a senior accounting or financial management role
- Accounting designation or an equivalent combination of related experience and education
- Experience in full cycle accounting, system migration, process creation, and accounting software implementations.
- Experience in Yardi, Payroll & Benefits and WCB Administration an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Critical thinking, planning and implementation skills with ability to work as a team and independently as required.
- Leadership skills with a can-do attitude towards challenges and working collaboratively with the team
- Strong work ethics and dependable with ability to exercise confidentiality.
