Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Controller to join Aragon, an award-winning property developer. The ideal candidate will oversee a team of 7-8 accounting professionals and ensure the financial health and integrity of our company. The Accounting Controller will play a crucial role in managing financial operations, implementing accounting policies, managing benefits/payroll and providing strategic financial insights.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee, and perform, day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with accepted accounting principles.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of 7-8 accounting professionals.
- Provide training, support, and performance evaluations to team members.
- Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor and report on budget variances and financial performance.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the President.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Coordinate audits and implement audit recommendations.
Strategic Financial Planning:
- Assist in the development of long-term financial strategies.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives.
Financial Systems and Process Improvement:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of accounting software and systems.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Ensure efficient and effective financial operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience in the property development industry is highly desirable.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in SAGE and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Experience in project and construction costing, budget management, cost control, variance analysis, and administration an asset
