Brown & Brown is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join our team in Markham, ON. Reporting to the Accounting Leader, the Accounting Supervisor leads accounting functions for profit center(s) and ensures the accounting functions are performed in accordance with BBAG (Brown and Brown Accounting Guidelines) or otherwise GAAP (Generally Excepted Accounting Principles). Participates in budgeting and forecasting for the assigned profit center(s) by working with the Accounting Leader and/or Profit Center Leader.
How You Will Contribute:
- Prepares journal entries, reviews general ledger and related financial statements for reasonableness within set deadlines
- Accumulates and analyzes information for the preparation of financial statements, ledgers, and reports on a monthly basis within set deadlines
- Prepares and/or reviews monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts and addresses reconciling items in a timely manner
- Assists in preparation of annual budget and performs analysis of related data as needed
- Prepares month-end reports and reconciliations
- Prepares monthly accrual journal entries for expenses
- Responsible for general operation of corporate accounting system(s)
- Assists with preparation of audit schedules
- Reviews and analyzes general ledger account balances
- Answers inquiries from internal and external customers
- Verifies accuracy of accounting data, and makes recommendations for corrections
- Provides ad-hoc training and ongoing assistance to subordinates and new staff
- Write and maintain procedures manual for corporate accounting and includes design of workflow and procedures for accounting clerks
- Special projects as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Skills to be successful:
- Knowledge and abilities equivalent to a four-year college degree in Accounting or Finance
- A minimum of 1+ years’ experience in an accounting or financial role.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite Products (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Industry software experience a plus
- Insurance background a plus
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Good analytical abilities.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Pay Range
$105,000 - $115,000 total compensation (Base salary + annual bonus CAD)
The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
