Position Summary:
Responsible for accurate and timely processing of weekly employee payroll in accordance with all relevant laws , regulations and company policies. Maintain confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standards to ensure privacy of employee records.
Position Responsibilities:
- Timely processing of weekly payroll for hourly and salary employees in Ontario and Quebec using ADP workforce now.
- Adjust all hours for employees in a timely manner.
- Process a variety of documents related to employee hires, terminations, retirements, and various benefit entitlements, ROE’s (Direct and Web).
- Coordinate with the HR department and managers to ensure correct employee records and maintain confidential filing systems.
- Process wage garnishments and other involuntary court-ordered payments in a timely manner, including reporting to the necessary authorities.
- Enter updates in ADP for manual payments and stop payments.
- Provide information to employees, supervisors, government agencies or other personnel by referring to policies, rules, regulations, or procedures or by researching files for information.
- Balance and process DPSP/RRSP payment.
- Prepare Source Deductions remittance forms.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Verify yearend tax forms and prepare Declaration of Employment forms.
- Prepare for new year by ensuring tax rates are updated and confirming the number of pay periods.
- Maintain confidentiality of information by legal or ethical standards and professionalism
- Investigate questionable data and take corrective action. Confirm that rates of pay and all deductions are correct;
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of Payroll experience.
- Certification, or pursuing, a degree or diploma in a relevant field (i.e. Payroll Compliance Practitioner).
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal rules and legislation.
- Ability to handle strict deadlines and work under pressure with attention to detail.
- High respect for confidentiality.
- Intermediate computer skills including proficiency in using MS Office applications and Outlook.
- Knowledge of Work Force Now ADP Payroll System is an asset.
- Some knowledge of a transportation environment is an asset.
- Attention to detail.
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proven interpersonal, organizational, mathematical, and analytical skills.
