The Company:
We are proud to partner again with Maple Rock Capital Partners to identify an Analyst to join their team. Maple Rock is a value-oriented investment firm utilizing a global long/short hedge fund strategy. The firm launched in 2014 and has its offices in Toronto and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Opportunity:
The successful applicant will support the investment team’s functions in Toronto, and aid in other areas of the firm as needed. This opportunity presents an exciting chance to join a lean investment team and take on a lot of responsibility. This is a 3-year program with the potential for strong performers to stay on longer-term.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the investment team to analyze industries and securities to determine investment merit
- Track a diverse set of information in pursuit of specific investment theses
- Write company and industry reports utilizing firm materials and formats
- Create and maintain financial models, industry databases, charts, etc.
- Due diligence current positions using valuation analysis, industry research, and company- specific fundamental analysis
- Develop the proficiency to indicate points of interest and inflection in investment-related data
- Develop the capacity to identify investment traits and relevant investment ideas
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of investment banking and/or relevant direct investing experience and possesses a genuine passion for public markets
- Demonstrated interest in investing, preferably with a fundamentals-based investment approach
- Strong financial modeling experience
- Strong work ethic, solid business judgment, and excellent organizational, interpersonal, writing and presentation skills
- Competitive self-driven personality with a level of intuition and a natural interest in the markets (i.e. a history of learning)
- Works well in a team environment but also has the ability to work independently to complete research (goal-orientated versus task-orientated)
- Creative thinker and unafraid to think differently than consensus
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience. Base plus bonus package.
Location:
Midtown Toronto. This is an in-office role.
