Job Function
Responsible for all aspects of our Financial & Accounting System across several companies. This role is responsible for the leadership, motivation, training, and activity of the Accounting Team, which consists of 3 team leaders and 8-10 total members. This is a hands-on leadership position in a mid-sized firm that collaborates with accounting team members, ownership, and companywide senior management.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Facilitate strategic direction, manage risk, preserve assets, and ensure healthy flow of internal controls, in conjunction with senior management
- Perform monthly General Ledger tasks. Approve and post GL Batches and inter-company transactions, perform reconciliations, and prepare internal financial statements; ensures organized and consistent database functions
- Oversee government remittances such as GST, PST, WCB, EHT, Income Tax, CARM/CBSA, legal, etc.
- Provide oversight for Accounts Payable functions such as EFT payment runs, wire transfers, foreign exchange purchases, and automation initiatives; ensures organized and consistent database functions
- Provide oversight for Accounts Receivable functions such as deposits, cash handling, customer setup, credit/collections resolutions, and automation initiatives; ensures organized and consistent database functions
- Facilitate with HR Department in ADP Payroll Services, Benefits, EHT, WCB, etc.
- Compile data, statistics, metrics, and trends to help with corporate planning, training, budgeting, and goal attainment
- Participate in software/hardware implementations, procurement, and maintenance in coordination with IT Manager
- Maintain an orderly paperless system of archiving, data management, and electronic filing
- Facilitate due diligence of acquisitions, buildings, and new location setups
- Facilitate capital asset purchases, utilization, and insurance, in conjunction with ownership
- Provide management representation for building strata’s and financial statement review
- Facilitate company management with reports, advice, guidance, and encouragement
Required Competencies:
- Post-secondary bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and/or CPA Accounting Designation
- Excellent internal & external customer relation skills
- Excellent communication & motivational skills
- Complete working knowledge of full cycle accounting practices, within a wholesale distribution environment
- Extensive knowledge of Sage 300 ERP accounting software (subledgers, taxes, multi-currency, divisions, etc.)
- Advanced use of MS Office, RBC Banking, Moneris, and other computerized systems or programs
- Awareness of software tools related to paperless workflow, alerts, automation, AI, reporting, etc.
- Training and experience in regards to corporate security, fraud, PCI compliance, etc.
- Effectively work in a fast-paced, heavy transactions-based environment
- Strong attention to details and scalability
- Ability to solve advanced problems with appropriate courses of action
- Strong sense of accountability and confidentiality
