Title: Accountant I
Duration: 01/02/2025 to 01/30/2026 with potential to extend or convert
TYPE: Hybrid (3 days in Toronto/London)
MUST HAVE:
1. Minimum two years of progressive experience in accounting, in the Real Estate industry
2. Strong knowledge of Real Estate Property Management, Accounting and Administration concepts required
3. Proficient in Microsoft office
4. Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
5. Ensure accurate accounting procedures and record keeping processes
NICE TO HAVE:
1. Nice to have working knowledge of Yardi, Procore and Prism
2. CPA designation or CPA student
SUMMARY OF DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set up job budgets and monitor costs to ensure they are not exceeded. Ensure all paperwork is completed with authorized sign-off
• Provide high-level analysis of the real estate portfolio for financial reports. Communicate necessary information to produce accurate and timely financial reporting for the Managing Director
• Perform monthly closing entries, including the operating report, journal entries, PTP entries, revenue recording, and accruals
• Review and analyze the General Ledger monthly to identify and ensure transaction are captured accurately
• Prepare quarterly/monthly forecasts, and variance analyses for submission
• Manage and record depreciation of assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and accurate reflection in financial statements
• Collaborate with managers/directors to gather necessary data and insights for preparing and submitting comprehensive yearly budgets. Ensure the budget aligns with organizational goals and strategic plans
• Collaborate with the property management team to conduct a comprehensive year-end variance analysis, ensuring all figures are consolidated and accurately reported to management
• Review and approve quarterly lease report
• Provide adhoc report as directed by management
Education:
• University degree in Business Administration or College diploma preferably in business, finance, accounting or real estate management required
• Certifications – CPA is an asset
