JOB DESCRIPTION:
Finance Manager, East Division
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Finance & Accounting, the Finance Manager, East Division is responsible for the accounting functions and supervision of Finance Team members of the Eastern region of the Universal Rail group of companies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Day to Day Activities, % of Time: 40%
- Ensure jobs are properly set up, maintained, and closed upon completion
- Signing off on job set-ups, budgets, rate tables, change management documents and job closeouts
- Month end review, adjustments, cost accruals and revenue recognition
- Maintaining work files
- Setting up and maintaining Job Rate Table(s)
- Analyzing Over/Under Indirects and SG&A accounts
- Margin and income statement variance analysis
- Prepares and reviews general accounting entries
- Coordinating billings via unit rate payment applications, milestone billings and/or force account submissions
Support, % of Time: 15%
- Ad hoc and client cost reporting requirements as necessary
- Support OC Manager, Project Manager, and Controller
- Assist in collection of A/R
- Manage the Payroll data captures and customer billing processes
- Manage the DSO for the area to keep with in targets
- Assist with bids, margins, RFI, RFP, and setting bill rates as required
- Assist with AFE for Capital Purchases
- Monthly detailed performance review to set critical financial focus for the current month, month end activities within the area to ensure accurate and timely cutoff and statements
People Management, % of Time: 15%
- Management of the Finance team for the division including hiring, disciplining, and terminating
- Direct Supervision of a team of Project Accountants, Job Cost Administrators, AR Administrators
- Regular activities include approving overtime or time off, approving and signing expenses, assigning and responsible for work completion and quality
- Mentor staff providing feedback and developing succession plans for team
- Annual and mid-year reviews for employees
Reporting, % of Time: 20%
- Monthly detailed performance review to set critical financial focus for the current month, month end activities within the area to ensure accurate and timely cutoff and statements
- Prepare executive reports, operating center's P&L, and Income Statements for all business lines in the area on a monthly basis
- Providing cost analysis and reports to measure actual to planned job progress for forecasting
- Annual budgets process for each operating center
- Monthly reforecast
- Business cases on an ad hoc basis
Process & System, % of Time: 10%
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives
- Understand and monitor the use of the ERP and others to ensure that they are capturing and reporting the data required for all user groups
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the ERP as updates and changes to the business environment evolve to ensure the ERP will continue to work in an effective and efficient manner
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- College Diploma or University Degree
- Professional designation preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 10+ years relevant work experience
- 5+ years supervisory experience
- Proven proficiency within a senior level accounting or finance function
- Proven proficiency and demonstrable experience within an accounting or finance function within an industrial contracting company
- Professional accounting experience including job costing, financial analysis, and financial reporting
- Knowledge and understanding of sales agreements and contracts
- Proficiency with computerized accounting software programs, preferably Sage 300 (Accpac) or CMiC
- Advanced Excel
