- Principal Responsibilities:
- Pays employees and compiles payroll information by managing payroll preparation, completing reports, and maintaining records for three companies
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations (ROE’s), and changes to pay rates
- Maintains payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data
- Balances the payroll accounts and resolves payroll discrepancies
- Completing T4’s and T4A’s annually
- Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
- Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
- Complies with federal and provincial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
- Review Group Insurance premiums and related employee deductions monthly
- Reconciling RRSP plan, group insurance, union deductions and remittances
- Maintaining Union seniority list
- Maintaining vacation time, sick time and banked time records
- Maintaining Employee Accounts Receivable records
- Maintaining records for Temporary Foreign Workers
- Completing monthly remittances (Union Dues, Worker Compensation)
- Weekly Labour Tracking and Reporting
- Assisting with various HR tasks
- Other related duties (as required)
Knowledge, Ability and Skill Requirements
- Confidentially of corporate data and individuals’ information requires a strong ethical grounding which is an absolute must for this position
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) are a necessity
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work within a team-based environment and build and maintain relationships across diverse staff
- Ability to provide customer service both in person and on the phone an asset
- Time-management skills, prioritization, and the ability to establish reasonable and attainable deadlines are required
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner or Certified Payroll Manager Designation through the National Payroll Institute will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of Payworks will be considered an asset
- Ability to keep well organized and detailed records required
- Knowledge of Union Payroll requirements will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of Temporary Foreign Worker Programs will be considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office computer applications, Excel skill level preferred to be advanced
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience
