We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our client's team in_ Chatham, ON_. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a variety of payroll-related duties, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and process payroll for the organization, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
- Serve as a backup for finance team members as needed.
- Ensure that payroll data, including time entries, is accurately recorded and processed on time.
- Handle critical payroll-related payments, including source deductions for income tax, CPP, and EI, ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
- Calculate and remit monthly premiums for Employer Health Tax and WSIB.
- Prepare and submit government reconciliation and statistical reports as required.
- Review and reconcile healthcare benefit premiums, manage shared costs, and prepare payment requests for benefit providers.
- Oversee Registered Pension Plan deductions and employer contributions, preparing necessary documentation for monthly submissions and annual reports.
- Prepare and reconcile T4s, T4As, and other year-end documents related to government remittances and payroll reconciliation.
- Generate fiscal year-end reports for vacation accruals and ensure journal entries are accurate for finance reporting.
- Implement wage adjustments according to employee agreements and contracts, ensuring timely and accurate updates; calculate retroactive payments when applicable.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include supporting payroll-related tasks within finance and human resources, preparing payroll journal entries, and assisting with quarterly and year-end reporting.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Certified Payroll Compliance Professional (certified by the National Payroll Institute)
- Post-secondary education in Accounting or a related field, with at least 2 years of payroll experience.
- Experience in the public or non-profit sector is an advantage.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation.

Hours:35 hours per week. Some flexibility is required to meet job demands.
Location: Chatham, ON
Wage:$33 - $40 per hour
