About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Analysis & Reporting the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for collaborating with operational leaders and executives in a variety of activities: financial and capital planning, analysis and reporting processes across the group of Oshawa Power companies. Specifically, this position will lead the regulated and unregulated capital operations from a budget, forecasting and reporting perspective and be involved in operational budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and preparation of reporting for senior level executives and the Board and its Committees across all entities.
As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to work on:
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Planning, Forecasting, and Budgeting. Work with operational departments in developing annual budgets, financial forecasts, monthly variance analysis and financial reporting (entity and project level)
- Lead the capital budgeting & forecasting process and assist the Distribution System Plan (DSP) capital team with annual budget preparation, forecasting and 5 year plan
- Lead all capital inquiries for external, interim and year end audit
- Support Operations team with decision making by identifying, quantifying, and communicating financial risks and opportunities, and providing advice and guidance regarding financial and capital matters
- Review operating results across all entities identifying key trends, risks, gaps to target, and areas of improvements
- Assist in the preparation of financial presentations and reports for senior management, the Board, and Finance and Audit Committee, highlighting the most relevant and important findings
- Support identification, review, negotiation, and evaluation of potential investments in distributed energy projects
- Ensure financial modelling is complete and reflects business inputs from stakeholders and that all assumptions have been properly vetted and documented
- Develop new and maintain existing financial models to drive quantitative insights to support business decisions, assess investment/acquisition opportunities and overall business unit/project performance
- Drives continuous process improvement throughout the organization, through automation and integration of business processes and is a proponent for positive change
- Support with the development and tracking of key business metrics
- Other duties as assigned
What you have to offer:
- Post-secondary degree, together with a recognized professional accounting designation;
- 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with working knowledge of IFRS accounting guidelines;
- Knowledge of the regulated Ontario electricity market, including retail electricity contracts and distribution regulations in a utility environment will be considered an asset;
- Experience with Great Plains and JET reports will be considered an asset;
- Demonstrated experience with accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting;
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with and across various business units within the organization;
- Strong sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;
- Excellent time management skills; sound judgment and decision making, critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities;
- Strong internal finance skills including budgeting and planning, financial systems, management reporting, and forecasting;
- Superior organizational, analytical and facilitation skills; with excellent attention to detail;
- Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and numerical analysis; and work with large data sets;
- Technologically savvy – willingness to take initiative in learning the systems to create efficiencies from a reporting perspective while ensuring internal control compliance;
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships;
- Results oriented mindset with ability to work on multiple projects/tasks at one time, to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines, work as part of and contribute to a multidisciplinary team;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels;
