What You Will Get To Do
The successful candidate will have a positive impact on our corporate culture by demonstrating the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) through daily interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization, external contacts and elected officials.
By effectively building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally, the successful candidate will help us achieve our mission that together we deliver services that make a difference in our community.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Accounting, the Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for accounts payable functions, including but not limited to the following:
- processing of all invoices (including utilities) in a financial and purchase order system whereby payments are issued by cheque and EFT;
- processing of all corporate credit card transactions;
- be the expert user of the accounts payables module of the purchase order system ensuring purchase orders are completed correctly by other departments;
- ensuring invoices correctly reflect the appropriate charges and to work with purchasing staff or the originating department to resolve any issues related to discrepancies providing accounting and administrative support to the accounts payable function;
- assisting departments with invoice payment in a timely manner, any inquiries regarding the status of the invoice or how to complete forms such as employee reimbursements and HST calculations;
- communication with vendors regarding EFT information, outstanding invoices, or any other invoice inquiry preparing analysis of asset, liability and operating accounts;
- ensuring timely processing of invoices related to payment certificates for construction projects to assist in ensuring compliance to legislated timelines;
- making recommendations and providing support to ensure the Financial Accounting division moves towards providing real time financial information to users and to assist managers to use this information to make informed decisions;
- completion of monthly general ledger reconciliations, monthly vendor statement reconciliation, and other month end requirements;
- providing back up support to other positions as required;
- assisting with year-end audit; and,
- assisting with other projects/duties as assigned.

What You Bring To Our Team
As the successful applicant, you must possess:
a three (3) year diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field;
completion or enrolment in the AMCTO program; CPA program; or Municipal Accounting and Finance Program (MAFP);
a minimum of two (2) years related accounting experience in a financial accounting environment (including accounts payable or accounts receivable), preferably in a municipal environment;
an intermediate level knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook);
knowledge of financial, purchasing and reporting software applications;
the ability to work independently in a team environment;
strong analytical, research, reasoning/negotiation, and problem solving skills;
a keen sense of accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail with strong numerical abilities;
excellent organization and prioritization skills;
well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills; and,
the ability to communicate both verbally and in written form, in a clear, concise, effective and courteous manner in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public; and,
- working knowledge of Workday ERP system considered an asset.
What We Offer You
Salary: $53,472 - $66,867 per annum (Band F)
