Bookkeeper / Accounting Technician

$65,000-$75,000 base plus stock options and good benefits
Our client is a growing start-up in the software and technology sector. The organization is starting a new business line that will offer bookkeeping services for all of their clients. In this newly created role, you would join and help start this division that will involve handling day to day full-cycle accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities. All of the clients are within real estate and lending.
Our client has an office downtown in the Distillery District and ideally would like this person to be in the office five days per week, but can also be open to a hybrid arrangement with potentially one day per week from home. They are devoted to developing future leaders in the business and this means that, should this division take off like they will it will, you would have the opportunity to hire and manage a person in the future.
This is an excellent position for individuals who are interested in building a well-rounded accounting skill set while working with an exciting diverse clientele. You will truly be treated as a subject matter expert in this bookkeeping role.
Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping assistance to clients, internally and externally, in various formats including Quickbooks Online, Xero, and CaseWare
- Processing bi-weekly/ semi-monthly payroll for clients
- Preparing monthly journal entries and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts as well financial and operating statements
- Preparation and filing of local tax returns
- Maintaining regular contact with clients and taxation authorities (CRA and IRS) to complete all routine formalities from an accounting perspective
- Completion of working paper files for Notice to Reader engagements
- Providing assistance with ad-hoc reports as required
Requirements
- 3+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or bookkeeping consulting firm
- Experience with and/or knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to multitask, meet recurring deadlines and take ownership of assigned client work
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team
