Accounts Payable Analyst
The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) is seeking a detail-oriented, organized and proactive individual to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn and grow while contributing to a collaborative and engaged team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices and other financial transactions.
*This is one-year parental leave contract with a start date of approximately November 25.*
What You’ll Do:
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting and Finance, you will provide expertise and support in coordinating day-to-day activities including but not limited to:
Invoice Processing:
- Receive, review, and process vendor invoices for payment, including G/L coding
- Verify accuracy of invoices, purchase orders, and other supporting documentation
- Resolve discrepancies and issues with vendors in a timely manner
- Monitor the purchase order list for all departments
Payment Processing:
- Prepare and process biweekly electronic payments, including cheques and wire transfers
- Maintain accurate records of payment transactions
Vendor Accounts:
- Responsible for all internal and external inquiries related to payables
- Communicate effectively with vendors to address inquiries and resolve payment-related issues
- Vendor account maintenance and statement reconciliation
Banking:
- Participation in the daily deposit function
- Cash flow support
- Manage and reconcile petty cash
Month End Close:
- Assist in month-end closing activities related to accounts payable
- Provide necessary documentation and reports for financial reporting
- Expense review and analysis
Education / Experience required
- Post-secondary degree with experience in Business, Accounting and/or Finance
- 3-7 years experience; exposure to Accounting function
- Discretion in handling of sensitive and confidential information
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Word and Outlook; experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central systems a plus
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, as well as HST and ITC requirements
- Experience transitioning to paperless workflow an asset
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
- English/French bilingual an asset
